Al’s Magic Shop was a landmark in downtown Washington, D.C., for more than half a century. A fan of Al Cohen recently wrote to him. The letter writer had never been in the shop, but remembered seeing Al demonstrate tricks at magic conventions. “You never minded repeating a trick,” the man marveled. “In fact, you seemed to really get excited about someone requesting a particular effect again, even if you just showed it 5 minutes beforehand. I also believed, somehow, that I WAS watching a show, and not just shopping.” No wonder that Al earned the title of “the world’s greatest magic demonstrator” for his skill as a master magician.
